Elsa Schiaparelli saw fashion as art. Now the Victoria and Albert Museum in London is looking at how that idea shaped her work and continues to influence the House today. Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art, the first UK exhibition devoted to the designer and the House she founded, spans the 1920s to the present. More than 400 objects bring together fash- ion, painting, photography, jewelry, furniture, and archival material. Some of Schiaparelli’s best-known collaborations are here, including the 1938 Skeleton and Tears dresses and the upside-down shoe hat created with Salvador Dalí. Works by Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Man Ray, and Eileen Agar sit alongside her designs, showing how closely her work was tied to the art world around her. The exhibition also brings the story forward through creative director Daniel Roseberry, who has led Schiaparelli since 2019. His recent couture includes pieces worn by Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa, connecting the House’s surrealist past with its current work. Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art is on view through November 8, 2026.
