For centuries, families have gathered beneath the harvest moon 
to share a meal, exchange mooncakes, light lanterns, and cele-
brate what matters most: reunion, gratitude, and the simple joy 
of being together. It is a holiday rooted not in extravagance, but 
in presence, a reminder to slow down, reflect, and make time 
for the people who give life its meaning.
While deeply woven into Chinese culture, its message is 
remarkably universal.
Every culture has its own rituals that bring generations together 
around a table. Traditions that remind us where we’ve come 
from while creating memories for those who come next. Though 
the customs may differ, the intention remains the same: to con-
nect, to celebrate, and to preserve the stories that shape us. That 
idea has always been at the heart of Balliet + Wang Luxury Living.
Founded by Michael Balliet and Ruby Wang, this publication 
was built on the belief that the most meaningful luxury expe-
riences happen where cultures meet. Throughout every issue, 
we’ve sought to celebrate the dialogue between East and West, 
not by comparing differences, but by discovering the shared 
values that unite them.
Craftsmanship. Hospitality. Family. Heritage. Design. Curiosity. 
These are principles that transcend geography.
They are found in a centuries-old teahouse in Hangzhou just 
as easily as they are in a thoughtfully designed Newport Coast 
residence. They live within an artisan’s workshop in Kyoto, a 
family-owned vineyard in Tuscany, a perfectly tailored gar-
ment from Milan, and a dinner table where stories are passed 
from one generation to the next.
